O A T S : Older Adult Training Specialist

Hi. I am Keith MacLaughlin. As an Older Adult Training Specialist (OATS) I specialize in designing and implementing fitness programs tailored to the needs and capabilities of older adults. This role requires a deep understanding of the physiological changes that occur with aging, as well as the unique considerations and challenges that older individuals may face when engaging in physical activity.

Unfortunately, for many people, aging is the gradual loss of the ability to take part in activities that once seemed effortless. However, this does not apply to everyone.
Older adults can live active and energetic lives, many of them performing impressive athletic and physical feats. 
Most experts agree that aging results from a complex interaction of lifestyle, environment, and genetics. A commitment to physical activity, good nutrition, and other healthy choices may modulate the inevitable fate of the aging body and mind.

Demographics of Aging

Currently, more than 54 million adults over the age of 65 live in the United States, accounting for approximately 17% of the total population. Estimates project that by 2030, 74 million people 65 or older will occupy the United States.
